BULLYING If you are a youth experiencing bullying at school, or on the net, you need not feel alone. Bullying is normal among most animal species... it's how the leader becomes the leader. That does not mean it's acceptable behaviour among humans. Bullying occurs because the social group ALLOWS it... often because they are too frightened to interfere. What is necessary to stop bullying is for the social group to stand up and say NO, but that will often require an AUTHORITY figure to step in. Among kids it means an adult or group of adults stepping in to stop the bullying. In the state of Florida, it is now against the law for authority figures, such as teachers, not to help... i.e. teachers can be held accountable for not stopping bullying they know of. This is because of "Jesse's Law" named after a boy who committed suicide from being bullied. Stopping bullying often requires teachers, or police officers stepping in to help. If you are being bullied you need help... even if it means threatening teachers, or social workers with legal action if they fail to help. Don't give up seeking help. Don't allow yourself to feel it's YOUR fault if you are being bullied. It isn't YOUR fault... it's the fault of those around you. You need to let adults know about your problem. You can get help... don't give up. If you are really desperate, write to me and I will contact authorities in your area. You may find the site below helpful. Butch thinks the site is somewhat "adult minded" in the way it is laid out but... it's a start. Try it out. If the site, below, is of no help... if you find the site too hard to figure out, don't give up. It's up to you to help yourself by asking for help from adults... you will find help if you keep trying. There are links on the internet that may help... go to GOOGLE and enter the word "bullying". Also go to YouTube.com and enter the word "bullying" in the search window and there are some videos that you may find useful. What is important is that you tell adults about your problem. Don't keep it to yourself... tell as many adults as you can. You have to do a little bullying yourself... threaten to take legal action against everyone who won't help you. Bullying is illegal even if the laws seem vague. Bullying is a kind of extortion. Bullying is AGAINST the law even if it doesn't seem to be. People who bully can be held accountable in a court of law. |
